Ilderim's Harem Dance & Pagentry
( Director - PQ Debbie Clairmont )

Harem 2017

Ilderim’s Harem, named after Ilderim, the head Sheik in the ritual, and informally known as “the Harem” was formed in 1977 by Past Queen Freda Wirth and Past Supreme Queen Nancelyn Ross.

The Harem performs once or twice a year as well as at the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit. The Unit, which provides visual, rhythmic and artistic performances, has also performed at Installations, Supreme Sessions and other special events. The Harem usually has one fundraiser a year that provides funds for costumes, paraphernalia and music. Most recently, the Harem’s fundraisers have taken the form of a Quiz Night. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Supreme Temple Convalescent Endowment Fund at the Supreme Queen’s Official Visit. The Unit also participates in the annual general fundraiser, the Special Project, held by Sphinx Temple. The performances may be pageantries, which are interpretive movements, slow or fast dances and humorous routines such as: Sister Act, Spice Girls, Puttin’ on the Ritz, and Tan Shoes and Pink Shoelaces.

Practices are held the first and third Monday of each month at Kirkfield Park United Church, and on the occasional fourth Monday, if required.

Contact PQ Debbie Clairmont or Princess Jo-Anne Deley for more information.

“The Harem” is all about fun, fitness and friendship. Members dues are $20.00 which includes all costumes and accessories and Associate dues are $3.00.

Tambourines 2017

Tamb 2

The Ladies who accompanied Queen Darlene Brooks to 1987 Supreme in Los Angeles were impressed by the various performances especially a Tambourine Unit. Upon their return the Tambourine Unit was formed, with their first performance at the 1987 Christmas session. The objective of the Unit is to aid the Queen as directed plus enjoy good fellowship and enjoyment. The first costumes were made by two of the eight charter members. The Tambourines first performance at Supreme was in Vancouver in 1990 for Queen Audrey Hill. The Unit performs at one or more Sessions during the year and have even enjoyed a guest performer in the person of the Potentate, of Khartum Temple ( www.khartumshriners.org ). The Tambourines fundraiser has traditionally been a Western BBQ which is held every other year in September. In recent years they have hosted a Night at The Races which has also proven very successful. The proceeds of this event assist with unit expenses, namely costumes and music, as well as enable the Unit to make an annual donation to the Convalescent Relief Fund.

Practices are held the first and third Monday of the month at Linwood School, Winchester Street, St. James.
